The Relentless Athlete Training Academy (RATA), where you are more than just a number, and success is measured in more than just metrics. RATA is our group training program focused on helping youth athletes not only reach fitness & athletic goals, but also on helping them become disciplined, dedicated, hard working, better PEOPLE in the process.
We train strength, speed, accuracy, endurance, balance, coordination, & mobility using a wide range of exercises & drills, programmed uniquely for each & every session. We build resiliency, intensity, & mental toughness by welcoming & encouraging failure. “Do the hard thing… fall 7 times, stand up 8”.
RATA Jr (ages 8-13)
Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5-6pm
$15/session OR $80/mo
RATA (ages 13 & up)
Mondays-Thursdays 6-7:10pm OR 7:20-8:30pm
$15/session OR 10 sessions for $120
$90/mo for 2 days a week, $100 for 3 days a week or $110 unlimited
At the Relentless Athlete Training Academy there are no contacts or fine print. We want you to WANT to train with us, not show up because you're bound by a document. Fees & memberships can be paid with cash, check, PayPal, Venmo &/or credit card- whatever is easiest for YOU. First session is ALWAYS free- come see if our family is a good fit for YOU!
Founded in 2015, Ubuntu Athletics is inspired by the African philosophy of "ubuntu", which translates to "I Am because We Are". We base our training programs & methodologies on the Ubuntu belief that we are stronger together, & much more capable of establishing lasting wellness & a synergy of mindset, lifestyle, & energy management when we work with other like-minded individuals in a positive, uplifting, empowered environment!
Ubuntu Athletics aspires to lead athletes on a journey of fitness & wellness breakthroughs through knowledge, support, positive feedback, & a passionate environment. We foster & facilitate lasting lifestyle changes through proper coaching, workout progression, nutrition & supplementation guidance, & leadership by example. We believe everyone has greatness inside of them, & should be empowered to realize their highest, healthiest potential! We not only coach each individual on healthy habits - nutrition, stress management, sleep, hydration, mobility, recovery, AND proper movement- but we also focus on positive mindset & motivation, & achieving optimal health by making good choices inside & outside of the gym. At The Ub (as our athletes lovingly dubbed us in 2016), it's not JUST about workouts or the food you eat, it’s also about what you FOCUS on & WHO you surround yourself with. We are Stronger Together & committed to changing each other for the better!
The RATA program, focusing solely on the athletic development of youth athletes ages 8 through college, was born in 2018, and while based on the same Ubuntu principles, focuses more on training our athletes not just on better health & wellness, but also on the 5 S's of Sport (Speed, Strength, Skill, Stamina, & Spirit) & the 4 F's of Success (Faith, Focus, Fight, Finish). We strive to use our extensive training knowledge & leadership skills to sow seeds of greatness, empower excellence, & cultivate Champions (in sport AND in LIFE).
Head Coaches Laura Honzu & Drew Dekemper and Assistant Coaches Mike Kanzig & Alex Forystek, bring multi-sport athletic experience, as well as a passion & fire for maintaining their own fitness, leading others by example, and helping other athletes realize their potential.
Laura is not only the founder & owner of Ubuntu Athletics, but also the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Wadsworth Grizzlies, & the “WODmaster”, programming the training for each session. She holds a BS in Athletic training with minors in Health and Exercise Science from Mount Union, as well as multiple certifications from the National Council of Strength and Fitness, USA Weightlifting, CrossFit, SafeSport, & NFHS.
Drew is the assistant head coach and chief motivator for Laura and all the gym athletes! Aside from working full time as a Union Electrician, he is a USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach, and spends his evenings at The Ub coaching athletes and training his own strength and skills.
Together, Drew & Laura have over 18 years of competitive athletic experience, including club and collegiate level sports, 10 fitness certifications, and 9 years of competitive training experience, including 2 local competition wins and 6 top 10 finishes.
Mike & Alex are former hockey players at the club & collegiate levels. They are long-time Ub athletes, with too many breakthroughs & success to list, & have training under Coach Laura for over 7 years collectively.
All of our coaches are all highly invested in the lives of our athletes, inside and outside of the gym, working hard to maintain open, authentic relationships with each person who calls The Ub home. You’ll often see our coaches at local sporting events for their athletes, including hockey, rugby, football, lacrosse, baseball, soccer and volleyball. They love cheering their athletes on to victory, and watching all their hard work in the gym put into action!
When they aren’t coaching classes or doing “gym stuff”, they enjoy picking up heavy weights and putting them down together, cracking dad jokes, meal prepping for the week, attending Mosaic, and spending time with family.
